HANFORD, Calif. – On Thursday afternoon in Hanford, a man crashed into a jewelry store, causing injuries to several individuals, before ultimately taking his own life, police said.

The incident occurred around 2:00 pm near the intersection of 7th and Douty streets. According to Hanford police, the man drove his vehicle into Candice & Co jewelry store.

Following the crash, the man exited the car, proceeded to enter the store, where he fired the fatal gunshot, police said.

“It’s still pretty early, but a truck was coming westbound down 7th St., hit a couple of vehicles, and then turned sharply into Candice & Co. jewelry, where it eventually came to a stop inside the store,” Hanford Police Chief Parker Sever said. “Then the driver of the vehicle shot himself in the head.”

Authorities have not released any further details regarding the the crash or the man’s state of mind.

“We’ll do that by interviewing family members, interviewing with the store owners and the people that were there to find out exactly what happened,” Sever added.

Drivers were advised to steer clear of the area for the time being. The investigation is ongoing.
