WASHINGTON – Federal authorities have dubbed him the Ball Cap Bandit.
They said he was a serial bank robber who held up three Falls Church and Alexandria area banks in the past few weeks while wearing baseball caps with sports team names, including the Brooklyn Nets, Colorado Rockies and Oakland Raiders.
The FBI released photos this week of the suspect, and on Thursday they said the bandit got nabbed.
Budder Khan, 26, of Arlington was arrested and charged with three counts of robbery for two incidents in Alexandria and another in Falls Church that police said he was involved in. The robberies happened in April and May.
About 10 a.m. on April 18, a man went into a Sun Trust bank in the 2800 block of Mount Vernon Avenue in Alexandria. He was wearing an Oakland Raiders baseball cap, glasses and a black vest, authorities said.
The man passed a note to a bank teller and demanded money. He received an undisclosed amount of money and fled on foot, according to the FBI.
Another robbery occurred on April 28 just before noon when the same man, this time wearing a Brooklyn Nets baseball cap, is believed to have gone into a Wells Fargo bank in the 1700 block of Fern Street in Alexandria, authorities said. He passed a teller a note demanding money, and got it. He fled on foot. He was wearing glasses and a light gray trench coat with the collar up.
Shortly before 4 p.m. on May 11 the same man, this time wearing a purple Colorado Rockies baseball cap, and the same glasses and light gray trench coat, robbed another Wells Fargo bank in the 1000 block of West Broad Street in Falls Church, authorities said. He went in, passed a note demanding money and “implied he had a weapon,” said Susan Finarelli, a spokeswoman for the Falls Church Police Department.
No one was injured in any of the robberies, authorities said.
