Man Killed, Body Set on Fire at Nashville Homeless Camp

NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE — The man found murdered Sunday night in a camp in the 1400 block of Davidson Street near Shelby Park is identified as Horace Horton, 55, who was homeless.

Officers and Fire Department personnel responded to reports of an explosion in the heavily wooded area at 6:30 p.m. They found Horton’s body on fire.  A second fire, with a small propane tank in the center, was also located nearby.

The preliminary autopsy shows that blunt force trauma was a significant factor in Horton’s death.  There were several tents at the camp but no other persons were present when emergency personnel arrived.
