Police announced on Thursday that the suspect responsible for the deadly 2021 ambush caught on camera in Queens has been apprehended. The shooter, identified as Ron Reeder, 52, was taken into custody in New Jersey last month and extradited to New York to face charges of murder and weapons possession.

Reeder, a resident of Teaneck, NJ, allegedly shot and killed Jermaine Dixon, 46, at close range on South Conduit Avenue near 132nd Street in South Ozone Park on the morning of September 6, 2021. The gunman, who was disguised in Hasidic-style clothing, attempted to steal $10,000 from Dixon’s pocket but fled the scene without the cash.

According to law enforcement sources, Reeder and another individual had been waiting for Dixon for several hours before the ambush. The motive for the attack remains unclear.

On February 23, Reeder was arrested at his apartment on Teaneck Road by the Bergen County Regional SWAT Team and the NYPD. In addition to the murder and weapons charges related to the Queens shooting, he is also facing charges of drug possession, identity theft, and financial crimes in a separate criminal case in New Jersey.

Dixon, a resident of Georgia, had recently been released from prison where he had been serving time on drug charges before being killed in the ambush.
