A man from Oregon who beheaded his mother’s cat has been sentenced to more than four years in prison after he pleaded guilty to animal abuse.

Rudy Espinoza, from Salem, Oregon, was arrested on 25 June after neighbors made an emergency call. Deputies found him wearing only his underwear, covered in blood and scratches.

Asked why he killed the cat, the 25-year-old man reportedly told the police it was because the cat was ‘evil and nosy’.

On the night of the incident, Espinoza’s mother returned home after work. Just as they were about to start a conversation, she decided to feed the cat as it was meowing for food.

Espinoza then proceeded to attack the cat, causing his mother to flee. The cat was found with a broken tail and a knife lying next to it in the laundry room.

Defense lawyer Stephen Lipton told the court that Espinoza’s actions were caused by a strong reaction to taking LSD.

Prosecutor Jean Kunkle said that investigators discovered a ecstasy manufacturing operation inside the 25-year-old’s room.

He had been selling the drugs through the bitcoin currency on the internet.

Marion County Judge Jamese Rhoades sentenced the 25-year-old man Thursday.

The report concluded that Espinoza should receive counseling and medical treatment for drugs.
