JACKSONVILLE, Florida — (Scroll down for video report) — Chief Tom Hackney described the incident that ended in shots being fired by an individual suspected of domestic violence and a Jacksonville Sheriff’s officer.

Hackney advised police responded to the 9400 block of Old Plank Road after a female called for assistance from a neighboring church.

The female stated that her husband’s violence toward her had been progressing over the last week. As officers attempted to make contact with the suspect, he refused to come out of the house.

At one point, a K9 officer was watching the rear of the residence and heard shots come from inside the home in his direction. The suspect emerged from the home with a cell phone in one hand and a rifle in the other.

As the suspect raised his firearm towards them, officers shot at the suspect and at least one round struck him and killed him.

The two officers who fired their weapons have been identified as Sergeant Rob Adams and Officer Charlie Wilkie.

The suspect’s identity was not yet confirmed as of this writing.
