NEW YORK — Cops in the Bronx arrested man carrying an illegal handgun after he threatened a woman on the 2 train early Saturday morning.

The suspect sat next to the 23-year-old woman as the train departed the West 72 Street station in Manhattan, began to compliment the woman and against her wishes started to touch her leg. As the woman asked him to stop the man removed a black firearm from his waistband and pointed it at her.

The train reached the East 149 Street and 3rd Avenue station in the Bronx where the suspect told the woman to get off the train with him, to which she refused. The woman exited the train at the Intervale Avenue and White Plain’s Road station, along with two good Samaritans who observed part of the encounter and called the police on the victim’s behalf.

Due to the accurate description of the man given by the good Samaritans and victim, which included a Playboy bunny tattoo on his neck, a transmission was broadcasted over police radios. A combined effort by officers from NYPD’s Transit District 12, and the 40 and 41 Precincts led to the man being stopped in front of 2688 3rd Avenue. He was identified by the victim and placed under arrest.

A Hi-Point .380 caliber handgun was recovered from the suspect’s front pants pocket and a loaded magazine was recovered from his rear pants pocket.

The 29-year-old man from the Bronx was charged with Stalking, Criminal Possession of Weapon, Criminal Possession of Firearm, Menacing and Harassment.
