A man was shocked to return to his home in Washington to find a squatter had sold all his family’s belongings on Craigslist.

Ed Saurs said that he and his family had owned the house in Puyallup for 25 years, but were not living in it at the time as they were getting ready to sell the property after buying a new house in Olympia.

When Saurs, 58, returned for an appointment with a realtor on Tuesday, he was stunned to find a man in his kitchen, who told him: ‘I’m here for the microwave.’

Saurs told the prospective buyer his possessions were not for sale – and the man then showed him Craigslist and OfferUp listings for his family’s appliances and furniture.

He told USA Today that he then heard footsteps and saw the suspect running through his yard – which a neighbour captured on surveillance camera.

‘He had been staying here for a while, built a nice little nest for himself,’ Saurs said.

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft, which the family believe has cost them around $5,000.
