NASHVILLE, TENN — Arrest warrants charging two counts of criminal homicide have been issued against convicted drug felon James Lee Simpson, 29, for last Tuesday’s fatal shootings of Keon Hawkins, 32, and his stepson, Kemontanez Armstrong, 22, during an apparent exchange of gunfire outside a house at 1300 Bessie Avenue in North Nashville.
About an hour after the 11:30 a.m. shooting, Simpson arrived at St. Thomas-Midtown Hospital with a gunshot wound to his right arm. Ballistics testing by MNPD Crime Laboratory scientists linked Simpson to the crime scene.
Simpson, a convicted felon for multiple drug offenses, also has prior convictions for felon in possession of a handgun and evading arrest.
