ARLINGTON, Texas – Four people were wounded when a student opened fire at Timberview High School in Arlington Wednesday morning. Police believe the incident started as a fight between students.

Around 9:15 a.m. local time, police responded to reports of the shooting in a classroom. Officers arrived on scene and swept the school. They determined the shooter left the building after the incident and a manhunt was launched for 18-year-old Timothy Simpkins.

Police said he was driving a 2018 Silver Dodge Charger and was considered armed and dangerous.

Simpkins was later taken into custody and a gun was recovered.

Three people were transported to the hospital, two of them with apparent gunshot wounds — both are expected to survive. A fourth person was treated and released at the scene with minor injuries.

“This is not a random act of violence. This is not somebody attacking our schools,” Arlington Assistant Police Chief Kevin Kolbye said. “This was a student who got into a fight and drew a weapon.”

“Our thoughts are with the victims, the students, and staff at Timberview High School,” Arlington police said in a statement. “Be assured that APD and all of our law enforcement partners will do everything in our power to bring the suspect to justice.”
