Maryland man knowingly transferred HIV to women he met on dating apps, police say

FREDERICK, MD – On Monday, police arrested Randolph Smith after evidence obtained during a 21-month long investigation. The investigation started based on allegations that Smith was actively having sexual relations with multiple females knowing that he was HIV positive. He was meeting these women on various dating websites and apps.

A detective identified and contacted several victims, and authored and received several search and seizure warrants. Evidence was presented to a Grand Jury, which resulted in Smith being indicted for the following criminal offenses:

4 counts – Assault – First Degree;
4 counts – Reckless Endangerment;
4 counts – Knowing Transfer of HIV Prohibited.

The Frederick Police Department is asking anyone who may have had a sexual relationship with Smith around or after July of 2017 to leave contact information on the Frederick Police Department.
