MARIN COUNTY — An elderly couple who disappeared while on a hiking vacation in northern California were found alive after a week-long search.
Carol Kiparsky, 77, and Ian Irwin, 72, were staying at an Airbnb cottage in Inverness for a hiking getaway.
They got lost in the dark while on a Valentine’s Day hike and reportedly aren’t aware of what happened after that.
They were discovered near Shell Beach in Tomales Bay State Park — a national state park some 50 miles north of San Fransisco.
The Marin County Sheriff said that rescuers extracted the air by helicopter and transported them to a hospital.
Kiparsky and Irwin were in stable condition with slight hypothermia, having stayed alive by drinking a puddle near where they were located.
“Thank God you found us,” the couple said, according to local news reports, when they were found.
“We’re so happy.”
