NEW ORLEANS, LA – The NOPD is investigating the fatal shooting of a 25-year-old female, and the shooting of an 8-year-old girl and a 39-year-old woman. The incident occurred at 14535 Duane Road in New Orleans East.
Shortly before 1:00 a.m., officers located the 25-year-old woman inside her residence suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the body while her 8-year-old daughter was found suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. The 39-year-old woman, who was also inside the residence at the time of the shooting, sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the body and was transported to the hospital with the 8-year-old girl. The 25-year-old woman was pronounced dead on the scene.
WWL-TV: 8-year-old Paris Williams was supposed to start school Tuesday. She had moved back from Texas a week ago to live with 25-year-old Walesha Williams. Both mother and daughter are dead and a 29-year-old friend is hospitalized. All three were shot inside a home in the 14000 block of Duane Road.
Detectives say a woman survived the shooting by playing dead. The NOPD confirms she watched as the gunman took off with a purse, cell phone and cash. Then she ran to a nearby neighbor’s house, where she allegedly identified the shooter before collapsing.
Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible in this incident, as well as a motive.
