NASHVILLE, Tennessee — A reactivated investigation into the 2005 death of five-month-old Karma J’Qua Weems has led to indictment of the child’s mother on charges of 1st degree felony murder and aggravated child neglect.
Shalonda Weems, 30, was taken into custody Monday without incident at her Green Street residence. She is jailed in lieu of $200,000 bond pending a hearing before a Criminal Court judge.
Karma J’Qua Weems was admitted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center suffering from extreme malnutrition and dehydration. She died on March 3, 2005.
