KANSAS CITY — Multiple schools in the Park Hill School District were on lockdown Monday afternoon as police searched for a suspect.

“Several of our schools are currently on hold, which means that the outside doors are locked but learning and lunchtime are proceeding as normal inside,” the district said in a statement. “The police told us about a suspect that fled from them at 152 Highway and Amity Ave., so we put Hawthorn Elementary, Prairie Point Elementary, Renner Elementary, Congress Middle School, Park Hill High School, the Gerner Center and the district office on hold as a precaution. We have no reason to believe he is near any of our schools, but we wanted make sure our buildings are safe just in case. As soon as the police tell us it is safe, we will unlock our front doors and go back to normal.”

The incident started after troopers tried to pull over a man for a traffic violation at Missouri Highway 152 and Amity Avenue, KCTV reported. The man then fled from the scene.
