Republican Jim Tedisco is calling for all police cars to be outfitted with bulletproof windows.

Authorities say Officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos were sitting in their patrol car near the corner of Myrtle and Tompkins Avenues when 28-year-old Ismaaiyl Brinsley approached and shot both of the officers just before 3 p.m. Saturday

Brinsley then ran down into a nearby subway station where he killed himself as police converged on the station.

“They have bulletproof vests, but when you are sitting in a vehicle with a bulletproof vest somebody could shoot through that window and hit you in the head, which is what happened to these two,” Tedisco said.

Tedisco and three downstate Republican legislators plan to introduce the bill once the new legislature is sat in January. When it comes to the cost, Tedisco says it must be no object.
