NASCAR Driver Jimmie Johnson’s In-Laws Found Dead in Murder-Suicide; Police Say Mother-in-Law Is Suspect

On Tuesday, authorities in Muskogee, Oklahoma, confirmed an ongoing investigation into the shooting deaths of three family members connected to seven-time NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson.

The victims, identified as Jack Janway (69), Terry Janway (68), and their grandson Dalton Janway (11), were discovered at a residence in Muskogee. Lynn Hamlin, the spokesperson for the Muskogee Police, said Terry Janway is suspected to have fatally shot her husband and grandson before taking her own life.

According to Hamlin, law enforcement received a 911 call reporting a gun-related disturbance, which abruptly ended. Upon arrival at the scene, police found a body near the front door, and moments later, they heard a gunshot emanating from within the home.

Investigation revealed the deaths of two more people inside the house. Hamlin further confirmed that the deceased individuals were the parents and nephew of Chandra Janway, Jimmie Johnson’s wife.

In response to this incident, Johnson’s racing team announced on social media that they would be withdrawing his No. 84 Carvana Chevrolet from the upcoming NASCAR Cup Series event in Chicago.

“We are saddened by the tragic deaths of members of Chandra Johnson’s family,” NASCAR wrote in a statement. “The entire NASCAR family extends its deepest support and condolences during this difficult time to Chandra, Jimmie and the entire Johnson & Janway families.”

Muskogee Public Schools also released a statement, saying, “Muskogee Public Schools mourns the loss of Dalton Janway who died Monday night. Dalton was a fifth grade student at Sadler Arts Academy who was cherished by his teachers and fellow classmates. Our heart goes out to the entire Rougher community who knew him as a friend and classmate.”
