NASHVILLE, Tenn. – An exchange of gunfire Saturday night resulting from a dispute at a party occurring at the swimming pool of Cambridge at Hickory Hollow Apartments, 660 Bell Road, resulted in two men being fatally shot and two others wounded.

The deceased are identified as Demontae Darden, 18, who died in the apartment complex parking lot, and Kalem Buford, 20, who was pronounced dead at Centennial Medical Center after being dropped off there by a private vehicle. Both Darden and Buford were among a large crowd attending the party.

The other two men shot have non-life threatening wounds. One of them is a 21-year-old who is awaiting trial for the October 2017 murder of a 16-year-old girl and is free on $150,000 bond. The other, a 31-year-old resident at the apartment complex, was hit in the leg when he mistook the gunfire for fireworks and came outside to ask that it stop.

The first shot appeared to have been fired at 10:10 p.m., leading to persons running and some of them shooting. As South Precinct officers arrived, a number of cars were exiting the apartment complex.

Homicide Unit and TITANS (The Investigative Team Addressing Neighborhood Shootings) detectives are pursuing active leads in this case.
