Nevada Deputy Killed in Line of Duty; Suspect Also Dead

NEVADA — At 2:18 a.m. Saturday, Carson City Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the report of a domestic battery involving physical injury at the 4100 block of Montez Drive in East Carson City.

As officers arrived at the scene, they reported physical injury to the female. Within minutes, the male suspect came out of the house and opened fire on the officers, killing one.

Additional units arrived in the area and secured the residence, evacuating three children (ages 8-13) and one adult.

The suspect was located dead at the scene.

The Carson City Sheriff’s has relinquished the investigation of this incident to the Reno Police Department.

Howell, who left behind a wife and four young children, was fatally shot Saturday when he and other officers responded to a domestic violence call in east Carson City, according to Las Vegas Review-Journal. Once officers arrived on the scene, a male suspect opened fire on the officers, wounding Howell who later died at a nearby hospital. 

Howell was with the Carson City Police Department for nine years, according to the Reno Gazette-Journal.
