NEW YORK — On Wednesday, September 27, 2017, at 8pm, Troopers were called to Lock 19 of the Erie Canal in Schuyler for reports of two people in the water. The investigation revealed a female had jumped into the water at Lock 19 to save a dog.

As the female struggled to swim, her cousins boyfriend, George L. Grullon, age 26 from Utica, NY entered the water to save her. As emergency responders arrived they attempted to locate Grullon in the water but he did not resurface.

At approximately 11:15pm, Mr. Grullon’s body was located by State Police Underwater Recovery Team (URT) and Oneida County Divers in 6 feet of water and 10 feet from where he was last seen. The dog was located and pulled to safety by State Police.

The investigation is continuing.
