NASHVILLE, TENN — The armed intruder fatally wounded by an apartment resident late Tuesday night has been tentatively identified as a 21-year-old South Nashville man with a criminal history. A positive identification will be made through his fingerprints.
Nicholas Ring, 27, called 911 at 11:23 p.m. after being awakened by a loud banging noise outside his bedroom window at the Hickory Point apartment complex on Old Hickory Boulevard within the Midtown Hills Precinct. Ring reported seeing a man kicking in his back door.
Ring said that he retrieved his pistol and remained in the bedroom. Moments later, he said the light outside his bedroom came on just before the burglar opened the bedroom door. Ring said he saw the figure of a man in the doorway and yelled for him to freeze. When the man reached for his waistband, Ring said he fired at him.
The intruder attempted to flee and collapsed just outside the door that had been forced open. The burglar was found to be carrying a semi-automatic pistol in his right front pocket. He was also wearing a sock on his right hand.
Ring cooperated fully with detectives. No charges were placed against him.
The investigation is continuing.
