NASHVILLE, TENN. — No charges have been filed in January 25’s 8 a.m. fatal shooting of Laquentin Franklin by his former girlfriend inside her Rio Vista Drive apartment.

Stefanie Lopez, 31, who had obtained an order of protection against Franklin, told Madison Precinct detectives that Franklin kicked open the door of her apartment and a physical struggle ensued. Lopez’s current boyfriend, who was asleep in the apartment, was awakened by the struggle and went to investigate.

He reportedly separated the two and saw Franklin head to the kitchen and retrieve what was believed to have been a knife. The boyfriend said Franklin tried to get past him several times to get to Lopez.

Lopez fired a pistol at Franklin. He was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he died.

The order of protection was issued in December after Franklin head-butted Lopez at work and made threats against her. He was convicted of domestic assault on December 21st.
