NEW YORK — On January 6th, 2016, New York State Police in Carthage arrested Edwin J. Lawton, 67, of Carthage, NY, for sexually abusing two children.
Lawton was charged with Predatory Sexual Assault Against a Child (A-II Felony), Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child in the Second Degree (D Felony), Sexual Abuse in the 2nd Degree (A Misdemeanor) and Endangering the Welfare of a Child (A Misdemeanor).
The charges stem from ongoing sexual contact Lawton had with two children in the Village of Carthage, which occurred between 2007 and 2015.
Lawton was arraigned in the Village of Carthage Court, and was subsequently remanded to the Jefferson County Public Safety Building without bail.
The New York State Police were assisted throughout this investigation by Jefferson County Child Protective Services.
