QUEENS, NY – Jovan Young, 29, has been indicted by a Queens grand jury on murder and other charges for the shooting death of a 10-year-old boy and the non-fatal shooting of another man. The shootings took place on June 5, 2021, in Far Rockaway, Queens.

Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said, “A community is still reeling from this family’s unfathomable loss to gun violence. As alleged, the defendant fired multiple times into an occupied house without any concern for the lives he was putting in danger, murdering a 10-year-old boy and wounding the child’s uncle. He now faces justice in the Courts – and we must do all that we can to end to the cycle of violence causing so much grief in our neighborhoods.”

Young, of Beach Channel Drive, Far Rockaway, was arraigned today before Queens Supreme Court Justice Michael Aloise on a three-count indictment charging him with murder in the second degree, assault in the first degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree. The defendant was remanded and Justice Aloise set the defendant’s next Court date for September 16, 2021. If convicted, Young faces up to 25 years-to-life in prison.

According to the charges, said DA Katz, on June 5, 2021, at approximately 9:33 p.m., video surveillance allegedly shows the defendant approach a residence on Beach 45th Street and fire multiple shots directly into the entrance’s screen door. Bullets hit two individuals inside the home. A bullet ripped into 10-year-old Justin Wallace’s abdomen, killing him. The boy’s 29-year-old uncle was hit twice – once in the neck and hand.

Police said the shooting stemmed from a long, ongoing parking dispute.
