NYPD Cops Shoot Armed Man While Responding To ‘Shotspotter’ Activation | Update

NEW YORK — At approximately 7:15 a.m. this morning 71st precinct officers were dispatched to a Shotspotter activation and several 911 calls for shot fired in the vicinity of Sterling and Rogers.

Moments later, three uniformed members of the service observed an armed suspect in the middle of the street. As they continued their approach the uniformed officers identified themselves and ordered the suspect not to move.

All three officers, a lieutenant and two police officers fired a total of twelve rounds striking the armed suspect once in his right hip. The suspect was removed to Kings County Hospital and he is listed in stable condition.

The three officers were transported to an area hospital for observation and they were treated and released. The armed suspect is a male, 31 years of age and he has been identified as Paul Mathurin with a date of birth of January 31st, 1985.

There were several civilian witnesses to the suspects possession and firing of the firearm. The firearm, a 9mm Taurus with an eight shot capacity was recovered at the scene. The investigation is ongoing by NYPD’s Force Investigation Division.
