Cops Use ‘Find My iPhone’ App To Locate Armed Robbery Suspects

NEW YORK — NYPD Housing officers arrested two robbery suspects Saturday afternoon in Brooklyn. The officers, all assigned to Police Service Area 1, responded to a 911 call of an armed robbery in the 2000 block of Stillwell Avenue, and upon arrival they were met by five teens who said they were robbed by two men with a gun.

The suspects removed two cell phones from the victims before fleeing on foot. With the assistance of one of the victims mothers, the officers utilized the Find My iPhone application and tracked the suspects, who were in possession of the stolen iPhone, to the vicinity of Mermaid Avenue and West 19 Street. The officers broadcasted the suspects’ description, location, and the direction of they were fleeing over their police radio.

Plainclothes officers responded to that location and quickly realized that the suspects were aboard a B74 MTA bus. After stopping the bus, the officers located the two suspects and removed them onto the sidewalk where they were both taken into custody.

While searching the suspects, the officers recovered a Crossman Vigilante BB gun, as well as the victims’ two cellphones.
