According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a developmental disability that can cause significant social, communication, and behavioral challenges.

About 1 in 68 children in the U.S. have been identified with ASD. Various members of the NYPD have been touched directly, or indirectly, by ASD, with this in mind the NYPD launched a campaign to recognize National Autism Awareness Month.

From offering resources to NYPD employees who may need assistance with a loved one to training officers on ways to recognize and help those they come in contact with as they keep NYC safe, the Department is proud to raise awareness for Autism.
