NYPD Special Operations officers rescued a man stranded in the waters of Coney Island Saturday morning after they responded to a 911 call of a man in a sinking kayak. Officers from the NYPD Aviation Unit responded and established a visual on the victim, a 33-year-old man, and his beige kyack, about one mile from the shoreline in the vicinity of the Parachute Jump.
The NYPD Aviation rescue team deployed two scuba divers who assisted the victim onto a Harbor Unit boat and retrieved the kayak. Harbor officers transported the victim, who was conscious and alert, to Kingsborough Community College, where they were met by EMS. The victim refused medical attention.
