An off-duty police officer opened fire in a Walmart store on a knife-wielding shoplifter in Northeast Dallas early Tuesday morning.
Officer Larry Mody, who was working as a security guard, confronted suspect Jonathan Puckett, age 33, around midnight at the Walmart located at Northwest Highway and Skillman Street.
A physical confrontation between the two ensued at the store entrance and Moody fired after receiving a cut to the hand.
Puckett suffered a gunshot wound to the lag and was transported to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital. He is reported to be in stable condition.
He will be charged with aggravated assault on a public servant and with violation of a Kentucky parole violation.
This incident marks the 20th officer-involved shooting of the year with the Dallas Police.
