On Saturday March 19, 2016 at 9:41 pm, the Pismo Beach Police and Cal Fire/ Rescue units were dispatched to the pier area for a report of a subject who had voluntarily jumped off the end of the pier into the ocean.
A witness reported Marco Antonio Reyes, 28, was swimming normally and ignored offers for assistance. Minutes later the subject was heard yelling from an area southwest of the pier and witnesses could no longer see him in the dark.
An extensive search and rescue operation was initiated by police units, Cal Fire / Rescue units, California State Parks Rangers, and the United States Coast Guard. The search was suspended early Sunday morning and reinitiated at sunrise with Pismo Beach Police, Cal Fire Pismo Beach, and California Highway Patrol Air Operations.
The search lasted until Sunday afternoon when the search was again suspended with negative results.
