Pakistan airlines plane crashes after takeoff with more than 40 people on board

A plane carrying more than 40 passengers has reportedly crashed in Pakistan.

The Pakistan International Airlines plane carrying 37 passengers plus crew “has disappeared”, spokesman Danyal Gilani said.

Initial reports say the aircraft came down near Havelian, the second largest municipality in the Abbottabad district of Pakistan.

Jamshed, aged 52, who was believed to be on board, was a recording artist previously awarded a Medal of Excellence by the President of Pakistan.

“All resources are being mobilised to locate the aircraft. Media will be kept informed as the situation develops.

“PIA’s emergency response centre has been activated.”

PIA’s public affairs division said in a statement: “We regret to inform that PIA’s ATR-42 aircraft operating as PK-661, carrying around 40 persons, lost is contact with ground control on its way from Chitral to Islamabad a short while ago.
