PHILADELPHIA — A Philly Police Officer was ambushed in an execution-style attack as he was sitting in his marked police car Thursday night, leaving the officer with three gunshot wounds to his arm.
The suspect has given a full confession, saying he did it in the name of Islam. The gunman, identified as Edward Archer, 30, also told investigators he has pledged allegiance to the Islamic State (ISIS).
Police Commissioner Richard Ross has said that the terrorist fired at least 10 shots into the car.
Police have full surveillance video of the attack.
According to the Associated Press, the suspect was swiftly taken into custody by fellow officers about a block away after he fled from the scene.
“This is absolutely one of the scariest things I’ve ever seen,” Ross told reporters during a press conference.
Officer Jesse Hartnett is a five-year-veteran of the force, he suffered a broken arms and facial injuries. He will require several surgeries to recover, police said. Both of the men were taken to local hospitals.
The firearm used in the attack was stolen from a Police Officer several years ago, officials said.
The condition of the suspect has not yet been released.
