FESTUS, Missouri —  A mother was arrested after Police found her 17-month-old child dead. First responders said the beating was so bad it looked like the child had been in a car wreck.

Authorities say this child abuse case is so disturbing that the Chaplin of the fire department put together a pray service for the officers and medical technicians who were involved, Fox2Now reported.

Officers responded to the call at an apartment and found the child unresponsive. The child had severe injuries to her face and neck, along with bruising over most of her body. The 17-month-old girl’s ‘face was smashed in,’ reports said.

The mother claimed the child had been bitten by spider and didn’t know what happened.

A 3-year-old boy was also found in the home with a broken leg. Police said the boy’s leg had been broken for some time but had not been treated.

21-year-old Taylor Lynn Fast has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child. The woman’s boyfriend is being sought by police.
