Police in Cologne have revealed that there has been a rise in the number of crimes reported and sexual assaults during a recent festival.
Cologne police had to disperse and detain people involved in a mass brawl between migrants and carnival goers after a migrant started groping a teenager.
The incident resulted in three people being hospitalized, police confirmed that there was a drastic rise in the amount of crime during this years carnival.
A police spokesperson said there had been over 650 crimes reported and 55 of those were of a sexual nature, which ranged from rape to groping.
Over 400 people were arrested during the festivities, which was a large increase of the year before.
Police also said that a knife had been used and that three people were hospitalized as a result of the violent attack, the attack started by a sexual assault on a young woman by a migrant.
Witnesses said that one of the migrants groped the 19-year-old and festival goers stepped in to help her.
Cologne police ordered clubs and bars to close in an attempt to prevent any further violence.
