NYPD Police Officers Velazquez & Wynohradnyk of the 48th Precinct helped save and transport an 8-day-old baby who was not breathing on Thursday in the Bronx. The officers quickly responded to a woman who approached them franticly stating that her infant was blue and not breathing in their home on 187 Street in the confines of the 48th precinct.

When the officers arrived to the location, they witnessed the 8-day-old baby apparently unconscious and unable to breath. Believing that the child was choking, Officer Velasquez immediately lifted him and began giving him back blows and started compressions in order to remove what was blocking his breathing and ultimately revive the child. After waiting several minutes for EMS to respond, the officers decided to immediately transport the child to Saint Barnabus Hospital emergency room to have awaiting doctors assist to clear the child’s airway, to get the child breathing again.
