Police Shoot & Kill Armed Carjacker

Dearborn Police Officer was patrolling the area of Tireman and Greenfield when he observed a man who was known to be wanted on a probation violation warrant, and who escaped from officers earlier in the day after committing a larceny in Dearborn.

KIRKLAND, Wash. – On Thursday at 9:20 a.m., Kirkland Police Officers responded to multiple 9-1-1 calls regarding a white male subject attempting to break into vehicles in the 11800 block of 115th Avenue NE in the Totem Lake area.

A short time later, officers made contact with the suspect who had a handgun in his possession. The suspect fled on foot.

According to witnesses, the subject then attempted to carjack a vehicle from a driver while displaying the handgun. Another witness reported to 9-1-1 that the suspect was attempting to enter a second vehicle.

Officers re-located the suspect in the 11500 block of NE 120th Street who had the handgun in his possession. A physical confrontation occurred between the suspect and the officers.

One of the involved officers fired a single gunshot, striking the suspect. Officers called for an aid unit, but the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene by the Kirkland Fire Department.

No police officers or civilians were injured.

As a matter of standard protocol, the Kirkland Police Department has requested an outside investigative team. The King County Investigative Response Team (KCIRT) is now assuming investigation responsibilities.
