CALEXICO, Calif. – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the El Centro Station arrested a previously deported convicted sex offender Tuesday night.

A 45-year-old man was apprehended by Border Patrol agents approximately five miles west of the Calexico West Port of Entry, after he attempted to illegally enter the United States. The man was later identified as Julio Cesar Olivar, a citizen of Mexico.

Border Patrol agents conducted records checks which revealed that Olivar was convicted of sexual abuse in the first degree in the state of Oregon. Olivar was previously removed from the United States on Mar. 4, 2015.

“This arrest showcases the tireless efforts of the men and women of the Border Patrol in helping make our communities a safer place to live,” said George D. Wetjen, Acting Patrol Agent in Charge of the El Centro Border Patrol Station.

Olivar is being criminally prosecuted for Re-Entry After Removal as a convicted sex offender and is being held at the Imperial County Jail.

In fiscal year 2015, El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents arrested 8 convicted sex offenders attempting to re-enter the United States after removal.
