CALEXICO, Calif. – El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents assigned to the El Centro Station arrested a previously deported “Sureño” gang member near the downtown area of Calexico last night.

At approximately 9:30 p.m., Border Patrol agents received an internal radio notification that indicated a man was making an illegal entry into the United States by climbing over the international boundary fence approximately one mile west of the Calexico West port of entry. Agents quickly responded and saw the man running away from the fence.

Agents arrested the man for illegal entry into the United States and transported him to the El Centro station for processing. At the station, agents determined that the man was a Sureño gang member with a criminal record, and had been previously deported to Mexico.

“Our Border Patrol Agents do a great job of enforcing immigration laws, but they also excel in ensuring that our communities are safe from these types of criminals,” Chief Patrol Agent Rodney S. Scott said.

The man, a 25-year-old Mexican national, will be prosecuted for Re-Entry-After-Removal.
