Southwest Baltimore – Diwaun Paige, 31, was sentenced to life for the fatal shooting of Malone “Mya” Sanders in July of 2017. In November, Paige was found guilty of first-degree murder, wearing, carrying, and transporting a handgun and using a handgun in the commission of a crime of violence.

Assistant State’s Attorney (ASA) Patrick Seidel prosecuted the case.

Baltimore police were called to the 500 block of Brunswick Street just before midnight on July 22, 2017 for a reported shooting. When police arrived on the scene, they discovered the body of Malone “Mya” Sanders lying on the sidewalk suffering from noticeable gunshot wounds to the abdomen, back, and head.

The investigation revealed that earlier in the night, Mr. Paige and the victim engaged in a dispute over a drug sale. Further investigation led detectives to the location of the murder weapon inside a vacant home in the 400 block of Brunswick Street, and forensic evidence confirmed the presence of the defendant’s DNA on the handgun. Multiple witnesses also came forward and identified Paige as the shooter.

“I am pleased that the killer responsible for this brutal execution will serve the appropriate consequence for the despicable crime he committed,” said State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby. “I am also grateful to the community who proactively came forward to cooperate with police and played a major factor in delivering justice in this case.”
