Earlier today protesters stormed the U.S. Capitol after the planned January 6th protest went awry. Since November 3rd, Donald Trump and his supporters have been trying to contest the results of the election. Their claim is that voter fraud on a massive scale had occurred in the Democratic Party’s favor.

Although the president’s legal challenges have went nowhere in the two months since the election, the president and his supporters remain adamant that the election was fraudulent.

As you can see the situation worsened as the afternoon went on and the National Guard, as well as Virginia State Troopers, had to be called in.

Numerous Republican Congressmen and Senators denounced the protest and advised them to not use any form of violence.

The president released a video in which he told his supporters to go home:

President-Elect Joe Biden also had strong words to say about the protest:

The protest reached a peak when a man was pictured sitting comfortably in House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s seat:

The violence continued:

While many Republican Senators and Congressmen objected to the electoral college certification in an effort to take a closer look at the election, it is abundantly clear that protesting won’t help them accomplish that.

UPDATE:

The woman who was shot in the protest has died:
