Marion, Ind. – The Indiana State Police, at the request of the Marion Police Department, is investigating a police-involved shooting in which a Marion, IN man died.

The preliminary investigation by Indiana State Police detectives revealed that today, at approximately 3:52 a.m., officers from the Marion Police Department responded to the area of 1500 South Florence on a report of gunshots being fired. The officers purportedly received information that a gold-colored SUV was involved in the shots fired call. No one was injured in that incident.

The Marion officer allegedly gave verbal commands for White to stop and stay in the vehicle. Those commands were allegedly ignored leading to the officer utilizing his Taser against White. The Taser eventually proved ineffective. At some point, White produced a handgun and was shot, at least once, by the Marion officer.

Despite life-saving measures by police officers and responding paramedics, White succumbed to injuries from a gunshot wound.

There were no officers injured in the incident. The Marion Police officer involved in the shooting will be placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
