Reports Of Multiple Blasts And Injuries In Turkish Capital

Multiple explosions have taken place in the Turkish capital of Ankara.

Witnesses have reported that the blasts resulted in several popping sounds and caused a number of injuries.

Reports from the city said the violence explosions caused panic with many people taking to social media fearing a coordinated attack.

Emergency services rushed onto the streets shortly after the blasts at about 1.30pm local time.

Military personal and firefighters were also deployed. Local police said they investigated but found no evidence of a coordinated attack.

The incident is thought to have occurred at a factory which produces dry ice, with witnesses suggesting it had been triggered by a gas explosion.

Witnesses say there was a smell of gas in the area.

 

The explosion was so loud it caused panic across the city, which has a population of 4 and a half million.

The city was targeted by ISIS militants in October when two bombs were detonated outside Ankara’s main rail station.
