BALTIMORE — Jerrod Battle has been sentenced to 65 years in prison for second degree murder, use of a firearm in the crime of violence, and being a prohibited possession of a regulated firearm. Battle was found guilty after a jury trial on September 9, 2016.

On October 15, 2015, in the 6600-block of Harford Road, a Baltimore Police Officer on patrol found the lifeless body of Terrence Johnson lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Eyewitnesses told the officer that a man with dreads and a red sweatshirt had shot the victim and fled the scene. Moments later, other nearby officers observed Battle, who matched the description of the suspect walking on Westfield Avenue a few blocks from the murder. He was taken in for questioning.

The next morning, a red sweatshirt and the handgun was recovered near the murder scene.

“This was a senseless murder,” said ASA Fitzpatrick. “Community members were horrified by what they saw, but showed great courage as they prayed over the victim while he lay there dying.”

Battle’s DNA was found on the handgun and the red sweatshirt.

“This is yet another example of the lack of value criminals have for human lives,” said State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby. “My prosecutors are working tirelessly to rid our streets of such violent perpetrators and to ensure the safety of the public. This is one less killer on our streets.”
