COMMUNICATED –

Hobbies are as unique and varied as the people who pursue them. Most rifle owners try to equip it with an optical sight to efficiently hunt fur or ungulate game. Pleasure is not cheap; you need to understand how to make a choice to not waste money. And the result of the shooting will depend on the correctness of the decision.

Magnification

The first thing that buyers see when choosing the best scope under 500 is the magnification, a characteristic that displays the ability of the sight to enlarge (zoom in) the object. For the correct choice, it is necessary to accurately imagine at what distances shooting will mainly be conducted.

For driven hunts, a sight with a magnification of 1-6 is enough. This will let you shoot on any distance aiming with two open eyes, as with a collimator scope. When hunting from a long distance, it is suggested to use sights of medium magnification. Well, sights with high magnification require the use of focus when shooting. Moreover, sights with a magnification of more than 15 are already installed on army weapons models.

Types of Weapons During Night Hunting

The most popular ways of night deer hunting are shooting from towers or from ambush. Shelters are built 160–260 feet from the site with complementary foods; night vision devices are used for observation and shooting animals. Night hunting is shooting at short distances because the meaning of hunting in the dark is that you can get very close to an animal. There are 3 generations of sights from the jons guide, each of which has its own pros and cons.

Gen 1 Night Vision

Depending on the degree of sky illumination, the sights of the first generation let you see the target at a distance of 160 – 490 feet. Previously, an EOP glass tube was used in these devices, they were not advised to install on high-caliber smoothbore guns due to the strong recoil that could damage the sight. Now the image intensifier tubes are installed in a ceramic case. The main pro of the generation of 1 and 1+ night sights is their relatively low price, so they are suitable for novice hunters.

Gen 2, 2+ Night Vision

They give a very clear picture even on moonless nights. When a sky is cloudy, it is possible to see an animal at a distance of 475 feet in the sight, when there is a full moon – at a distance of 2067 feet. Generation 2+ sights can be installed on smoothbore weapons of any caliber. In the presence of such a sight, it is almost impossible not to shoot an animal: according to statistics, the frequency of hitting a target in an open area is 80-90%.

Gen 3 Night Vision

They have the most powerful optics, but they are also the most expensive ones. With a similar scope, the hunter can see everything that happens in the night forest to the smallest detail even on the darkest night. In the full moon, these devices let you see an animal at a distance of up to 2720 feet, and with the sky covered with clouds – at a distance of about 650 feet.
