A 21-year-old man from California has been arrested on suspicion on burglary and animal cruelty after he fed the homeowner’s dog broken glass from the mess they made.
Once the robbers were inside, the pair ransacked the house swiping jewelry and cash.
The dog, named Marlie, began to chew and crunch on the shards cutting her mouth as she began eating.
Hours later, the family returned home to find their windows smashed in and their dog badly hurt.
Investigators posted photos of the men to law enforcement agencies in local communities and received a tip leading them to Valdo Diaz.
Diaz was arrested on Wednesday morning on suspicion of burglary, felony animal cruelty and a parole violation.
A search remains in place for the second man who is wanted in connection with the alleged offenses.
Marlie was treated for her injuries and has since made a full recovery.
