Seven agitators were arrested following a disturbance in Cal Anderson Park Sunday afternoon.

Shortly before 4:30 PM police responded to Cal Anderson Park for reports of people inside the park, which remains closed. This is a day after a homeless encampment / new ‘autonomous’ zone was removed from the park.

Officers entered the park from the north and began contacting individuals who claimed they were having an “Antifa soccer game.” Officers attempted to contact a group of people by the soccer fields, when one person in the group spat on an officer. Police placed the man under arrest for the assault. Six people then attempted to free that individual. Officers then arrested those six people.

A large group of people then surrounded the officers, making it difficult to safely move the arrested individuals out of the park. Additional officers were called in to make the scene safe.

One of the arrested individuals received medical aid due to a reported medical issue. The Force Investigations Team is investigating the reported injury.

Police eventually were able to escort the seven people from the park and book them into King County Jail for assault and obstructing a police officer.
