Upon arrival, deputies discovered the woman had been shot in the leg, and she was transported to a local hospital by first responders.

Police say the homeowner heard a noise from the rear of his home and found a naked woman he didn’t know entering through the door. She then proceeded to hit him with a cast iron frying pan.

The homeowner was able to remove the woman from his home before securing the premises. However, the intruder went to the back porch and began turning off the electrical breakers. She also began shouting and threatening to kill the homeowner while beating on the kitchen window.

Shortly after, the homeowner retrieved his firearm and shot the woman in the lower leg.

The suspect has been identified as Paula Michelle Locklear, a 35-year-old. After being discharged from the hospital, she was charged with felony breaking and entering, assault and battery, and property damage. Locklear is awaiting arraignment in Carroll County General District Court.

Authorities have ruled the shooting as self-defense and confirmed that the homeowner will not face charges.
