SHERIFF: New York boy falls into sewer, survives half-mile ride before rescue

Ballston Spa, New York — (RELEASE / Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office) — On Saturday, deputies received a 911 call reporting a possible rescue from a sewer pipe at the above location. It was reported that 3 male teenagers were playing around a sewer diversion box located on the closed section of the Zim Smith Trail, which runs between Oak Street and Underpass Road, when one of the males, age 14 fell in.

Several agencies, including NYSP, Ballston Spa Police Department, Community Ambulance Corps. and Ballston Spa Fire Department responded with this agency to the scene and confirmed the report.

After approximately 15 minutes of searching the pipe line, the male victim was located by members of the Sheriff Office inside another diversion box, located in the Curtis Lumber Industrial Park, approximately 2500 feet away.

The male victim was found with only minor cuts and scrapes and was taken to Saratoga Hospital for an evaluation, accompanied by his parents.
