South Korea has recently unveiled debris from North Korea’s rocket which officials say has a range of 7,500 miles.

Authorities said that the rocket was similar to the Unha-3 which was launched in December 2015.

Seoul’s Defence Ministry has today released images which show a section of the nose cone retrieved from a South Korean island.

Officials have said that the North isn’t advanced enough to transform it into a ballistic missile which is capable of reaching the United States.

The rocket, which was carrying an observation satellite, launched on Sunday morning, which achieved orbit within 10 minutes.

The launch triggered international condemnation and further resulted in an agreement at the United Nation to implement new sanctions.

The Pentagon has confirmed it wanted to issue South Korea with a sophisticated missile defence system to be placed on the South’s border.

A spokesperson for the Pentagon released a statement saying: ‘Without getting into a timeline, we’d like to see this move as quickly as possible.’

He went on to say that the North has not yet mastered the technology needed to turn the rocket into an inter-continental ballistic missile.
