LOUISIANA — **UPDATE: The injured Senior Trooper has been identified as Steven Vincent, a 13-year state police veteran.**

The suspect accused is Kevin Daigle, 54, of Lake Charles.

A Louisiana state trooper was shot in the head Sunday during a traffic stop in the Lake Charles area, according to officials:

The entire LSP family is requesting your thoughts and prayers following the shooting of a Louisiana State Police Trooper in the Lake Charles area.

The incident occurred as the Trooper conducted a traffic stop on a suspected impaired driver and was shot during the course of the interaction. The suspect was subsequently detained by passing motorists as additional citizens rendered aid to the Trooper until assistance arrived on the scene.

The trooper was responding to a report of a vehicle driving in an unsafe manner. The vehicle was found in a ditch.

Fox8Live reported the accused shooter was also taken to a hospital, it’s unclear the extent of his/her injury.

The identities of the gunman and the trooper have not yet been released.
